This is the best thriller movie with a message I've ever seen. Outstanding acting, plot is perfect, constant tension, twist at the end and all this made on a budget. Agressive, antisocial behaviour and gangs are reality especially in lower classes and in families where generations grew up in unimployment not to mention other groups coming from a foreign culture. You cannot close your eyes and say I can see no problem here. All Brits can. Junkies kill one another and people who contribute to society as well. This film is like a cry for action.

Re: Ten Little Niggers (1939)

A lot of black people cheerfully call each other and themselves as "niggers" but will be highly offended if an outsider uses the word. Have you seen the movie "Rush Hour"? Perfect example of what I mean. I think the word has so much negative baggage attached that it is rightly being removed from everyday conversation, but this is only cosmetic. When the mindset BEHIND the words changes, then we will see progress.

Re: Ten Little Niggers (1939)

yes

there are many completely clueless people on this earth

Re: Licence to Kill (1989)

There's one thing that I think could have been done better in Licence to Kill. After Bond's first meeting with Q, he sends him off, but says Q would have made a fine field agent. Later, after throwing yet another monkey wrench into Sanchez's operation, he sends off Q and Pam, saying he works alone. I think it would have been better for Bond to have thanked Q and Pam in the later scene, which would have given his character development a bit more solid footing. Bond was obviously shaken by Felix's mauling, and I'm sure he wouldn't forgive himself if someone else in his cirlce like Q, M or Moneypenny met a simialr fate, a concept that was expanded on when Janus (from GoldenEye) and Dominic Greene (from Quantum of Solace) taunted Bond with it.
I really did like how they handled the parallels between this movie and Majesty's. In lesser hands, they would have beaten it into the dirt, but the subtle approach worked very well, giving newbies the necessary hints and not bogging down those who had seen all the films up to that point.

Re: The World is Not Enough (1999)

Something I don't see mentioned often: Electra's scheme in this movie sounds a lot like Goldfinger's Operation Grand Slam. Hijack some nukes, blow up your competition and your profits increase many times. Oh, and make sure you have a henchman that can't feel pain - sad that the more cartoonish Oddjob is more convincing with the no pain gimmick that Renard. Of course, being Bond, recycling plot elements is nothing new, but I really like the idea of a Goldfinger/On Her Majesty's Secret Service hybrid.

Re: Skyfall (2012)

Sanchez is a great villain, but Silva and Zorin are of the same crazy mould. IMO, Franz Sanchez might be a more appropriate comparison. Nonetheless, Silva's a solid villain for an excellent movie and easily in my top five Bond villains (#5 Dr No, #4 Raoul Silva, #3 Franz Sanchez, #2 Auric Goldfinger, #1 Ernst Stavro Blofeld).

Re: Goldfinger (1964)

How dare you! ;) What's your favourite Bond film @rosie1843?

Re: The Sword with No Name (2009)

I don't pretend to know anything about Korean history, but the story should be understandable from the movie itself surely? I admit in my review that the storyline may well be accurate, but it is the treatment of it that makes it so hard to follow.

Re: The Sword with No Name (2009)

Hey Laura, what did you like about it?

Re: From Russia With Love (1963)

Jinx!

Re: Goldfinger (1964)

The movie is crap to me. At least she isn't Mary Goodnight or Jinx.

Re: Ten Little Niggers (1939)

I dunno, it truly can be a description by some people, I once had a girlfriend who, after i came back from a holiday looking very brown, exclaimed God! you look like a nigger! I was quiet taken aback and asked her to repeat it, which she duly did without a hint of wrongdoing. She simply meant i look really dark and saw nothing wrong in using that term to describe me. Never a hint of racism beforehand or since has persuaded me she was quiet innocent. now, that doesnt mean its not her responsibility to know what terms would be offensive and ultimately, its her fault for being so ignorant. But on the other hand, she has so little cause for thinking about race and racism, it never occurred to her to check up on offensive words. she knew she meant nothing so therefore the very act of checking it up would bring race into it.
I made a similar mistake when talking to my 'of chinese descent' mate who owns a chinese restaurant and said, ye, its a great chinkys youve got there. merely thinking chinkys is short for chinese and only used in conjunction with chinese restaurants. I was informed its the same as paki etc and have never used it since. But I considered myself enlightened in such matters. Apparently not. (were still friends)

Re: Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)

Great idea. The only thing preventing it from being completely irredeemable is the scene with Dr. Kaufmann and the car chase following it. I honestly think that would have make a neat 20 minute short film, somewhat akin to the short stories Ian Flemming would write.
